On August 01, 2018 I, Bill, traveled to the beautiful Jekyll Island, Georgia to photograph all things of interest.

One of the first areas I visited is a section of Driftwood Beach. After doing so and on the way back to my truck I decided to detour down a paved walking/bike path, which runs parallel to the beach but about 100 yards or so behind the beach. There are small ponds on both sides of the path as well as marshes and fallen trees. Lady luck was shining on me as I came upon a tricolored heron perched on a branch of a fallen tree over a canal.

This tricolored heron did not seem to be bothered by me as I was only about 20 yards from the heron while photographing it. I'd hoped it would spread its wings or fly away after a short while, which would allow me a chance to capture an in-flight image. But, this bird was happy with the perch it had and simply would not budge so I finally gave up, thanked it for being a wonderful photography subject and walked away to leave it in peace.

I captured this image using a Nikon D850 camera plus a Nikon 200-500MM lens plus a 1.4 extender to allow further reach.

After editing a copy of the original image with Photoshop I decided to add a light oil brush touch to the image and was very pleased with the results. Then I decided to replace the original background with what you see since the original background was not very appealing, at least not to me. I wanted to keep the tree branch in the image as it added to the quality of the image in my opinion. So once again, this process almost exhausted my patience as it took several hours to accomplish.
