On December 17, 2016 we came upon this beautiful male Vermilion Flycatcher (scientific name is Pyrocephalus Rubinus) perched on a high shrub branch above a shallow lagoon area located on the Saint Marks National Wildlife Refuge, which is located on the Florida Gulf Coast south of Tallahassee. Of course, as its name implies it catches flies for food as well as other insects and does so in mid air most of the time. In fact, we watched it fly off the branch several times, grab something so small we could not see it in mid air, then return to the branch and scout for another victim to, again, fly off and grab. It was actually very entertaining to watch. All visits to our FAA-Pixels art sites are welcomed, encouraged and appreciated.
